Young Designers From New York Visit Envision

We always enjoy welcoming visitors to Envision, especially young people starting out in design, and on 17th November we had a visit from five 2nd-year students from the Pratt Institute (New York ) Industrial Design course. Murrill Oakes (who got everything organized), Sandra Atakora, Julian Goldman, Michiko Stas and Maya Seetharaman joined us for the afternoon to get an idea of the sort of work we do at Envision. (Michael Wong is the sixth member of their group but unfortunately he could not join us on the day.)

They are currently in Japan at Keio University as part of something called the Global Innovation Design (GID) program, which allows them to spend this fall semester in the Keio University Media Design graduate course then the spring semester at the Royal College of Art in London. Students from both those colleges will also spend a semester at Pratt.

Apparently we were on top of their list of design studios to visit while they are in Japan. That was very gratifying to hear but, then again, I always was a sucker for a compliment. So I rounded up Yoshi Shimazu, Yuichiro Tashiro, Katsunori Hasako, Akihiko Hoshio and our visiting English designer, Sam Whitcomb to present a few of our past and on-going projects. After hiding all the top secret stuff we also gave them a guided tour of the design studio.

Here’s some photos of what was a very enjoyable afternoon for us at Envision. I hope Murrill, Sandra, Julian, Michiko and Maya really enjoyed themselves as much as they said they did…!

Last, but not least, big thanks to all the participants: (L to R) Katsunori Hasako, Akihiko Hoshio, Sam Whitcomb, Murrill Oakes, Michiko Stas, Sandra Atakora, Maya Seetharaman, (Harry Uden), Yuichiro Tashiro, Julian Goldman and Yoshi Shimazu.

NB: Some of the pachinko machines in the photos have been intentionally blacked out. This is not because we showed anything top secret; it is because we do not have the rights to show the anime or manga characters used on any of our internet sites!
